Paris, USA

Right after Donald Trump became president, visual anthropologist Victor d’Allant drove thousands of kilometers to report from small American towns all called Paris —from Paris, Idaho (pop. 479) in Mormon country, to Paris, Texas, the city made famous by Wim Wenders. A personal road trip deep into the South and Midwest, as well as an intimate look into Middle America, “PARIS, USA” explores the lives of forgotten Americans.

GÉO France recently published a twelve-page portfolio of his work (PDF here) as did FRANCE-AMÉRIQUE (PDF here). His photographs were shown in Paris (the one in France) for four months in 2022, thanks to San Francisco contemporary art foundation 836M, European real estate firm PAREF and LEICA France.

"PARIS, USA" will be shown again on rue de Rivoli during the summer of 2026 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
